Carmel RC College, Darlington


As part of the Step Up group for our college we would like to see the streets safer and cleaner to walk to and from school. Also we would like to improve the health and fitness of the school, as walking to school improves a person's enthusiasm and overall ability to learn

 Today was our introduction to the Step Up programme. We were introduced to it by Gary and Sarah [Darlington Youth Service], and Sam [Living Streets], who will help us run the Step Up campaign in our school.

We identified positive and negative issues in our area, walking to and from school. We were handed promotion posters and postcards to give out to our friends.

at our last meeting we decided:

  • to give early lunch vouchers to the class that walks to school most
  • to give a £15 HMV voucher to one person from the winning class
  • To give a prize to one of the people who fills in the Step Up survey
  • To link the Step Up website to the school website
  • To update their web page regularly
